In 2015, Tina E. Roberts and Inger “Dee” Kelly founded No Ordinary Woman. These women formed this foundation out of a desire to empower women who had lost their voices, visions and purposes. These women will tell you that a No Ordinary Woman is a: “Cancer or Domestic Violence Survivor; Active Duty, Retired or Disable Veteran; A single, Stay at Home or Career mom, Entrepreneur or a Wife. She is a voice that needs to be heard and a story that needs to be shared.”
No Ordinary Woman’s mission is to serve women anywhere who are in crifsis, disadvantaged or who are in need. Serving woman in need is their “why,” and since its inception they have provided solutions and resources to women in need. Some of their initiatives have included “Let’s Talk Now” a candid roundtable discussion about Breast Cancer and Cancer Survivors; they have provided community COV1D-19 relief efforts to local postal workers and families in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina; hosted Back to School Drives; provided Lemonade Stands for CHKD; hosted Painting with a Purpose Fundraisers; and provided self-care goodie bags to Booker T. Washington cheerleaders and Virginia State University cheerleaders. They have also participated in the Hampton Roads Morning of Hope and the planning/logistics of Suffolk Relay for Life; volunteered at the Judeo Christian Center, Union Mission and Beautifully Bald 5k Run for Alopecia Awareness; sponsored Coverings with Kindness Drive to support the YWCA; and the #IAMNOW Movement recognizing ordinary woman across the country and #GotPurposeNOW Movement, charging ordinary women across the country to walk in their purpose. And these are just a few of the many initiatives that this foundation has taken on.
No Ordinary Woman is a shining example of a small non-profit impacting the lives of the people in their community on a daily basis. And today we thank this organization because its impact is beyond measure.
